About

Hi there.  If you’re reading this, you’re either a friend who’s vaguely curious about what I’d do with a soapbox, or you’ve somehow stumbled here on your own.  Either way, welcome.  Friends and loved ones have pointed out to me many times that I often have quite a bit to say when it comes to music, movies, and popular culture in general.  And while Facebook and message boards are a decent enough venues to a point, it seemed like time to give these various popular culture thoughts/tangents/rants their own space.  And really, while I already have more than a few distractions from my dissertation as it is, it never hurts to have more, right?

As the title of the blog indicates, a lot of the discussion you see here will likely be related to film music.  The relationship between music and movies has fascinated me since early childhood, and it tends to be where my head goes more often than not.  But that doesn’t make this a film music blog, per se; it’s more a whatever-bee-Paul-happens-to-have-in-his-bonnet-at-the-present-moment sort of blog (for example, today Paul has a over-hyphenating bee in his bonnet).  So things do tend to go back to film at the end of the day, but who knows what could happen?

That said, here are some topics that you’d be likely see here any given week:

Film music – ranging from the Golden Age to the present day.

Orson Welles’ later films.

Muppets.

Terry Gilliam’s career.

Early Disney movies.

German Expressionism.

More Muppets

’90s Warner Brothers cartoon shows.

Steven Spielberg’s last decade as a filmmaker.

Lars Von Trier films (and why they don’t have enough Muppets).

Terrance Malick’s composers.

And other eclectic odds and ends.  If you’re interested in the blog and would like to stay updated, try “likeing” the blog’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Moviemusicmusings.  Thanks for reading, and don’t hesitate to send suggestions if you have ideas for future posts – I’m generally pretty receptive.

Too bad that the German Expressionism is a bit short on Muppets…
